REPAIR THE HALAEJA BRIDGE AT CHIANG RAI

Halaeja Bridge, built in 1998 crosses the Kok River in Chiang Rai. This bridge connects two villages, Jadua Village of the Karen tribe community and Kaw Vua Dam Village. It is an important shortcut that can cut a 10 km walk. Over 300 Karen students cross the bridge to attend Pah Kwang Wittaya School. When the bridge broke the students could no longer walk to school. With no students the school would soon shut down and people from the two village communities could neither communicate nor trade with each other. A SINGHA R-SA team traveled to Chiang Rai and repaired the Halaeja Bridge between 28 April and 8 May 2015. Our team included students from Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Rai Rajabhat University, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, Chiang Rai Campus, and Chiangrai Vocational College. The Facebook fanpage of SINGHA R-SA members also volunteered to help us with this project. We used new wood to strengthen the bridge. The community and SINGHA R-SA thank the many volunteers for all the help and support we received.
