Garbage Collection and Beach Restoration with the “SEA SAND STRONG” Project
Today, environmental problems are getting increasingly out of control and one of the biggest challenges is the waste pollution. The “SEA SAND STRONG” Project was created to help restore the beaches and return the beautiful scenery to the community. On November 3-4, Singha R-SA launched the project at Had Son Na and Had Yao of Krabi Province.
The objective of this project was not limited to just collecting garbage on the beaches, but we also aimed to raise awareness among the locals to take care of their environment. We invited students from 13 schools located within Taling Chan and Koh Sriboya Subdistrict, Nuea Khlong District, Krabi, as well as the local residents to help pick up the garbage and clean up Had Son Na and Had Yao beaches. Due to wind and seawater currents, both beaches had always been the places where sea debris gathered.
Picking up the trash and cleaning the shores did not only return the beautiful scenery to us, but the marine lives, and even our own lives, also benefited from this project. When the trash or debris are abandoned into the sea, they could be easily consumed by mistaken marine animals, including the fishes. Then the fishes are caught and eaten by humans. Some of the garbage that was disposed of into the sea was plastic waste which is poisonous to animals and humans alike. Therefore, it is very important for us to take better care of our environment in order to preserve the marvelous nature of our planet.
