Providing Flood Relief @Nan

During the month of August, northern Thailand was hit by very heavy rain generated by the Tropical Storm Bebinca. The rain caused water levels to rise and rivers to overflow, flooding the homes of villagers living near the water. One of the worst-affected areas was the district of Wiangsa in Nan province.

When the rainy season hits Bangkok, the biggest problem most people face is a longer journey time through heavy traffic. When the rains hot the countryside, however, the rivers burst their banks and whole villages are inundated. Farmers can lose their crops, while others lose their homes.

April is usually the hottest time of year in Thailand, but this year the region was plagues by violent summer storms bringing heavy rain which inundated parts of the country. Chainat was one are which faced severe damage as over a hundred homes were devastated by very strong winds.

Continuous heavy rains caused widespread flooding across many provinces in Southern Thailand and Southern people faced more hardship from unseasonable floods in December. Heavy rain continued causing flash floods and over 10,000 households and several areas were terribly affected. Water had overtaken the roads so boats became the only mode of transportation for the residents at the time. But it was not convenient for them. Those flood victims also might have to suffer from lack of adequate food and safe drinking water.

Restoration Mission After Receding Waters at Udon Thani

At the beginning of August, hundreds of villagers living in Northeastern Thailand were faced with heavy floods and many troubles. Although the waters were receding, the mud and debris left behind were a real problem for the villagers. Kamchanod Forest was badly affected because many rivers flow through the area and drain to the Mekong River, causing heavy flooding. When the waters receded, SINGHA R-SA traveled to Kamchanod Forest to help with the clean-up operations.
